- Is this a convention?
No. First Night Boston 2008 is a New Year's Eve celebration created to reveal and celebrate the diversity of Boston, using art as a catalyst to unify the community through creativity, imagination and participation.
The anime screening room being presented by The New England Anime Society is merely one of over 200 events at First Night Boston 2008.
- When is this?
First Night Boston 2008 takes place on December 31, 2007. Our anime programming runs from 1:00pm until approximately 11:00pm. There will be brief breaks between screenings to clear the room. These are noted on the schedule.
- Where is this?
First Night Boston takes place in various venues across the city. The anime programming will be located in room 100 of the Hynes Convention Center.
- How do I get there?
Parking is limited on First Night. Avoid traffic and parking hassles by taking public transportation to the festivities. The use of MBTA trains, buses and commuter rails are strongly recommended.
- Is there a hotel?
Hotel rooms go fast in Boston so book your reservations today! The official hotel of First Night Boston, The Boston Park Plaza Hotel, is situated in the middle of all your New Year's adventures and offer special discounts for First Night revelers. For a complete list of hotels in the Boston area, please contact the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau at 1-888-SEE-BOSTON or visit their web site at www.BostonUSA.com.
- How much does this cost?
Buttons are just $15 per person (children under four are admitted free), and can be ordered online now or purchased at Shaw's/Star Market, Store 24, and hundreds of other outlets from November 24 through December 31 (except as noted).
- Why are you only showing dubs?
We are choosing our programming schedule carefully with the intent of having it appeal to the largest possible audience, primarily those who may not be very familiar with anime. We also want to keep the programming kid-friendly. Keeping that in mind, all our programming will be presented dubbed in English rather than in Japanese with English subtitles.
We realize this decision may not appeal to some of the most vocal anime fans, but please understand that it is our intent to introduce a whole new audience to anime at First Night Boston. You can still expect to see both subtitled and dubbed anime at Anime Boston.
- Is this being run by Anime Boston?
No. The anime programming at First Night Boston 2008 is being presented by The New England Anime Society. The NEAS also organizes Anime Boston and Providence Anime Conference, but the anime programming at First Night Boston is completely independent of those conventions.
- What other events are at First Night Boston?
You can find details about other First Night Boston events on the First Night Boston web site.
- Can I wear a costume?
Yes, but keep in mind that this is not an anime convention and 99% of the people there will not be in costume. Don't be surprised if you get a lot of strange stares from people. Also, please be aware that many other First Night activities may require going outside...and it gets very cold on New Year's Eve in Boston. Please dress appropriately.
- Will you be giving stuff away?
Yes! We will screen one episode from each title on the schedule. After the screening for that title is over, we may* give away the DVD to a lucky person in the audience. The method of selecting who gets each DVD will vary and we don't want to give away all the secrets now.
* We can't give away some titles because they have either not been released and the company has loaned us a pre-release copy or because the title has been borrowed from someone's personal collection.
